Pedestrian dies in road accident

A pedestrian died when he was knocked down by a car in Lancashire.

The accident, involving a BMW, happened on the A59 Liverpool Road, near the junction with Drumacre Lane in Hutton, at lunchtime.

The 46-year-old man from Kirkham died at the scene. The driver of the car was shocked but unhurt, police said.

The road was closed for five hours while officers carried out investigations. Police are appealing for witnesses.
