Driver killed in gas main crash

A man has died after his car crashed into a gas main box in Lancaster.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue and Transco were called to Lancil Way off Caton Road at about 2130 BST on Friday, a fire service spokeswoman said.

The 59-year-old driver, from the Lancaster area, was freed from the wreckage but died from his injuries, Lancashire police said.

The victim's car was discovered by a member of the public, but they did not witness the accident.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the police.
