Car linked to bank robbery found

A car which is thought to have been used in a bank robbery in Lancashire has been found by police.

An armed gang made off with a cash box which was being delivered by security guards to the Abbey on Clifton Street, Lytham, on Tuesday evening.

A black BMW, similar to the one used as a getaway car, was found near St Bedes Catholic High School on Talbot Road.

Lancashire Police said the vehicle has now been taken away for forensic examination.

The robbery took place at about 1930 BST, when the gang went into the bank armed with axes, hammers and baseball bats.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Det Insp Steve Gardner said: "Information from witnesses has indicated that the three offenders may have consisted of two males and a female.

"It is thought that the female may have been the driver of the vehicle.

"I would urge anyone who may have any information on how the vehicle arrived in the Talbot Road area or who may have seen people near to the vehicle on Tuesday evening, to contact the police immediately."
