Couples can tie knot at tower top

One of the UK's most iconic landmarks is now a wedding venue.

Couples can tie the knot 119m (390ft) up Blackpool Tower after the Grade I listed building was granted a civil wedding licence.

Ceremonies will be performed at Tower Top, the enclosed area which also houses the "Walk of Faith" glass floor.

The search is on for the couple who will be the first to get married at the Tower Top. The ceremony is expected to take place later this year.

Geoff Sage, tower general manager, said: "It is great for the tower and the resort that we have been granted the license for Tower Top weddings and we can't wait to host the first ever legal ceremony.

"It is going to be a hugely momentous occasion and will be an honour for everyone here in the tower team to be involved in making history."

Blackpool Tower was opened in 1894 and was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It stands 158m (518ft) high.
