Elderly woman dies following fire

An 82-year-old woman who was rescued from a house fire in Lancashire last week has died in hospital.

The blaze broke out in the property on Porritt Avenue, Lancaster, in the early hours of 27 August.

Joan Walker was rescued by firefighters and was then taken by ambulance to Royal Lancaster Infirmary, where she died earlier this week.

An investigation into the fire, which caused extensive smoke damage to the house, is being carried out.
