Dog mess targeted at beauty spot

A council is getting tough on dog walkers who are not cleaning up after their pets at a Lancashire beauty spot.

Visitors and residents are being asked to report owners who leave dog mess at Lytham Green and the nearby beach.

Dog patrols have also been stepped up to catch offenders, who face fines if they fail to clean up.

Fylde Council is also urging dog walkers not to let their dogs off the lead in the dark, so that dog mess does not go unnoticed.

The leader of Fylde Borough Council, John Coombes said: "We have already invested a lot in bins for dog waste and our wardens patrol the area regularly but obviously people are not getting the message.

"I want to remind people that although they are welcome to take their dogs onto the green we will not tolerate them making a mess that everyone else has to put up with."

The on-the-spot fine for failure to remove dog mess is £50 and failure to pay could result in a prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.
