Coach crash scouts return to UK

Damaged truck

A group of scouts from Lancashire who were involved in a coach crash in Canada have returned home.

Ten of the teenagers had to be treated in hospital after their coach was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry near Lindsay, Ontario.

The coach, carrying 102 scouts and leaders, was on its way to Toronto when the accident happened.

The group landed back at Manchester airport on Monday morning after an overnight flight.

Those injured had suffered cuts, bruises, whiplash and shock.

The last of the group, a teenage girl, was released from hospital on Friday.

Accident investigation

The coach came to rest in a roadside ditch following the collision.

An investigation into the cause is under way.

Graham Cooper, who was part of the group, said: "It was worrying, while it was still travelling, we didn't know what was going to happen.

"We didn't know whether it was going to roll over or what was going to happen, so we were lucky we came off as well as we did."

By Friday, the group had resumed its itinerary and was touring Toronto's waterways with the city's marine police.

The youngsters had travelled to Canada on 28 July.
