Inquiry after water supplies cut

Investigations are under way to find out why almost 8,700 customers in west Lancashire were left without water.

United Utilities said supplies were cut after a private contractor working off Liverpool Road, in Ormskirk, damaged a water main on Monday night.

A team of engineers were sent to the scene to repair the pipe and supplies were restored at about 0130 BST.

A United Utilities spokesman said the company was now trying to find out who the contractor was working for.
