Man's body found in burnt-out car

A man's body has been found in a burnt-out car in Lancashire.

Emergency services were called to a farm track off Green Arms Road in Darwen on Monday morning where a Hyundai car was reported to be on fire.

When the fire service and police arrived the car was already burnt out and the badly charred remains of a body were found in the driver's seat.

The man is believed to be from the Bolton area, although he has not been formally identified.

The police are asking any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

Chief Inspector Neil Hunter, who is heading the investigation, said: "Although the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage, the circumstances are still unclear.

"We want to find out what happened so that we can provide some answers to the next of kin and supply information to the coroner."
