Woman charged with murder of baby

Police have charged a woman with the murder of an 11-month-old girl.

Courtney Ann Shales was taken to hospital after an ambulance was called to Railway Street in Nelson, Lancashire, late on Wednesday night.

The child died later in Burnley General. The results of a post-mortem examination are not yet known.

Police have charged Lynn Jeffrey, aged 37, of Poplar Street, Nelson, with murder and she will appear before Burnley magistrates on Saturday.

A man arrested at the same time has been released without charge.
