Blackpool B&B among best hotels

Norwood Hotel A family-run Blackpool B&B has been voted one of the best hotels in the world in an online poll.

The 10-bedroomed Norwood Hotel was named in the top ten of two categories in the Travellers' Choice Awards, voted for by holidaymakers on the web.

Travellers ranked it third for best service and hospitality and sixth in the world for best value for money.

Owner Geoff Hodson, who runs the hotel with his wife Lorraine, attributed the success to their personal touch.

"There's still an impression about the small hotel that's from the 1940s and a bit Fawlty Towers"

The Norwood Hotel has an average five-star rating on the website that handed out the award, Tripadvisor, which also names it as the most popular hotel in the town.

"Rather than being a five-star hotel with Jacuzzis in every room, we realise our limitations and work on the personal service and hospitality," said Mr Hodson.

"Some people get the wrong impression of how far small hotels have come.

"We're furnished in a very contemporary way and there's no chintz."

The couple, both 47, have been running the Norwood for five years.

"There's still an impression about the small hotel that's from the 1940s and a bit Fawlty Towers," Mr Hodson added.

"Our hotel isn't like that at all."
