Man killed in fall from cliff top

A man has died when he fell about 200ft (61m) from a cliff top.

The man, in his mid 30s, is believed to have slipped and fallen as he walked with friends at Capel-le-Ferne near Folkestone, Kent, at about 1330 BST.

One of his party called the police and a search and rescue operation was launched.

The man's body was recovered near the base of the cliff. A Kent Police spokeswoman said the death was being treated as an accident.

The spokeswoman said the cliffs where the man fell was in an area that is popular with walkers.

The owner of a holiday park which is situated on the cliff top said the man fell from her land and was believed to be Russian.

Evelyn Frantzeskou who owns Varne Ridge Holiday Park, said: "It was right in front of my house. There's a little slope you can walk down but I think he just slipped right off.

"We just can't believe it."
