Crackdown on parking near schools

Motorcycle patrols are helping to crack down on drivers who illegally park outside schools in east Kent.

Letters are being sent to Thanet's 54 schools giving advance warning of the one-year trial aimed at making the areas safer at peak periods.

The patrol, which also aims to make village roads safer, is being unveiled for the first time at Cliftonville Primary School, in Margate.

Motorists run the risk of a £70 fine if they are caught parking illegally.

It is part of a joint venture between Kent County Council and Thanet District Council.
