School closures follow snowfall

Wintry weather and heating problems have shut a number of schools in Kent.

Eleven schools have contacted BBC Radio Kent to tell pupils not to come in on Monday because of the snowy conditions.

Many parts of Kent experienced snowfall overnight and the Met Office issued a severe weather warning of widespread icy roads in the South East.

The emergency services have also urged motorists in the county to take extra care on the roads because of the snow and freezing weather.

Robert Napier School, Gillingham, Walderslade Girls School, Chatham, Elaine Primary School, Strood and Dame Janet Infant School, Ramsgate, Brook Community School, near Ashford, are all shut.

Greenacre School, Walderslade, Bradfields School, Chatham, Medway Community College, Silverbank Park, Chatham, Stansted Church of England Primary School, Sevenoaks, and Freshfields pre-school in Whitfield, Dover, are also closed.
