Road checks after women attacked

Detectives investigating three attacks on women who were out on their own in south Kent have carried out road checks a week after the incidents.

The same man is thought to be responsible for the assaults in Greatstone, between Friday night and the early hours of Saturday.

Kent Police have set up extra patrols in the area this weekend.

One of the assaults was thought to be a sex attack but no evidence has been found to support this, officers said.

But the force said it was still a serious incident that was being investigated thoroughly by police.

Det Insp Lee Whitehead praised the victims' courage in assisting with the investigation.

He also said the road checks were to help job people's memories, and find people who only visit the area at the weekends and who could have information.

Ch Insp Martin Bradley urged people to enjoy nights out as normal, but to avoid walking alone, ensure others know of their whereabouts, and arrange lifts home.

He said 187 vehicles were stopped during the road checks early on Saturday.
