TV slimmer child sex trial halted

Barry Bethell arriving at court

The jury in the trial of TV dieting personality and radio DJ Barry Bethell, accused of a number of sexual offences against children, has been discharged.

Judge Timothy Nash ordered a re-trial at Canterbury Crown Court. A date for the re-trial was not fixed but it is expected to take place next year.

Mr Bethell, 65, from Whitstable, Kent, was remanded in custody.

Mr Bethell became the face of SlimFast in the early 1990s and has worked as a radio DJ for several Kent stations.
