A man who fled the UK while on bail for rape and indecent assault has handed himself in after being named in a Crimestoppers' campaign in Spain.
Andrew Alderman, 49, from Canterbury, Kent, who disappeared in August 2006, walked into the British consulate in Madrid on Tuesday.
He had been sentenced in his absence to 10 years for rape, indecent assault and sexual activity with a child.
He was named in Crimestoppers' 10 most wanted list two weeks ago.
The organisation's Operation Captura scheme targets British criminals on the run in Spain.
'Pressure too much'
Mick Laurie, chief executive of Crimestoppers, said: "This is yet another great success for Operation Captura. Within two weeks of launching a dangerous criminal has handed himself in.
"A huge thank you must go out to the media for their pivotal role in helping to publicise these Most Wanted criminals, due to Alderman's face being so widely circulated, the pressure became all too much and he decided to give himself up."
Alderman had last been seen on CCTV at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Folkestone, Kent, in the early hours of 31 August 2006.
He speaks several languages, including Spanish, and was thought to be living in mainland Spain, Ibiza, Majorca or the Canary Islands.
The mother of his victim had made several appeals for information about his whereabouts since he fled.
She told BBC South East Today in July that while Alderman was at liberty her daughter was suffering.
