CCTV setback in rail attack hunt

Police have said CCTV images of an incident when a woman was pushed on to a live rail track in Kent on Wednesday have proved to be of no use to them.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said the pictures were indistinct and showed only the backs of heads.

Now officers are studying CCTV from 13 stations along the line from Victoria.

Linda Buchanan, 58, landed near the 750-volt live rail at Farningham Road station and suffered a broken wrist, after telling two men to stop smoking.

She was pulled back on to the platform by other commuters shortly before a train pulled in.

She told BBC News she felt lucky to be alive, adding: "I am still shocked by the whole experience. It could have been a lot worse."

Farningham Road is the second most-vandalised station in the country, according to the Transport Police.

The Transport Police spokeswoman said the CCTV tape had produced no facial images of the two men and officers were now carrying out the time-consuming task of looking at pictures from cameras on all other stations along the same line from London Victoria.

One of the men was described as white, in his mid 20s, and about 6ft, with a stocky build. He had short cropped brown hair and was wearing beige shorts, a green round-necked T-shirt and trainers.

The other man was white and in his early 20s with a medium build, bright red shorts and a dark top.

Officers are trying to establish what the men did after the attack.

An off-duty policeman chased them but lost them as they fled the scene.
