Rare seahorse captured on camera

A rare short-snouted seahorse has been found close to Dover Harbour by divers.

The surprise sighting was made in Shakespeare Bay during the Kent Wildlife Trust's first official Kent Seasearch dive survey of the year.

The same species, normally found in warmer climates, was spotted in the River Thames in April.

The wildlife trust said it was the first time the elusive creature had been caught on camera in its natural environment.

The seahorses, or Hippocampus hippocampus, are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

They normally live around the Canary Islands and Italy.
