Station set for high-speed future

Dover Plans for improvement works to a railway station and its surroundings are going on public display.

Dover Priory station, in Kent, will be a stop on the high-speed Channel Tunnel Rail Link from December 2009.

The proposed works are to make the exterior of the station and its approach roads "more attractive, safe and practical to use".

The designs can be seen at the Dover Discovery Centre on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.

'Minimal disruption'

Councillor Nigel Collor, from Dover District Council, said there would be "changes to the traffic flow, and introducing greenery and some shrubs in the forecourt area and down the approach road".

"We want to make Dover Priory station a real destination for the high-speed link when it arrives," Mr Collor said.

And he added that the planned works had been designed to ensure "minimal disruption for people getting to and from the station".

The interior of the station has already had a makeover.

Other redevelopments in Dover are set for the St James area and the port's Western Docks.
