Man dies as car and van collide

A man has died in a road crash on the A2 in north-west Kent.

The victim, aged in his early 60s and from Istead Rise, was in a car which collided with a van and then hit the central reservation barrier.

The accident happened on the A2's westbound carriageway around the junction for Cobham and Shorne.

The road was closed back to its interchange with the M2 for about four hours on Friday evening, causing severe rush-hour traffic congestion.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at 1615 GMT.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the man who died had been trapped in the wreckage of his vehicle.

Nobody else was injured in the accident.
