Double jobs setback hits region

An aerosol factory in Scunthorpe is to close with the loss of 150 jobs despite talks aimed at a last-ditch rescue.

Unions met with managers at Colep on Monday in an attempt to draw up a rescue plan to avoid redundancies.

However, they have been told by the company that the site on the Foxhills Industrial Park will have to shut.

Meanwhile, another 25 jobs are to go at Immingham-based shipping company DFDS Tor Line, which has already made 41 workers redundant this year.

It is being blamed on the millions of pounds the company owes in backdated port rates as well as a downturn in trade, particularly steel.
