Vandals force closure of footpath

Vandals have forced the temporary closure of a popular footpath and cycleway in Grimsby.

The path, known as Barnsdale Way, forms a link between the Willows and Yarborough estates and is regularly used by pedestrians and cyclists.

Vandals have set fire to a timber bridge which carries the path across New Cut Drain. The act has caused severe structural damage.

The council said it would remain closed until a steel bridge was installed.

A spokesman for North East Lincolnshire Council said: "Clearly the bridge is unsafe but despite warning signs and fencing people are still trying to use it, so we will be having it removed entirely until a permanent replacement can be installed."
