Fire destroys wallpaper factory

Scene of fire at Teckno Developments

More than 60 firefighters tackled a blaze which destroyed the premises of a wallpaper company in East Yorkshire.

The Teckno Developments site in Bishop Burton, near Beverley, which employs about 70 people, was well alight when fire crews arrived just after 0230 GMT.

Some nearby properties were evacuated as fumes spread over a wide area and fire officers said the building was near to collapse.

The A1079 Hull to York road was closed, but reopened by early afternoon

The road had been closed in both directions between the Killingwoldgraves roundabout and Bishop Burton.

Boss defiant

Dave Fisher, from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We've not been right through the building as yet due to the partial collapse of the building, but we have no reports of anybody being trapped."

Teckno Developments managing director Trevor Langley said he was devastated but vowed to get the business up and running again.

"We will just fight it through," he said.

"It will take us about three months to get it off the ground on another site.

"We employ the best part of 70 people and they rely on us.

"We were doing well and we will do well again."
