Parents meet over school closure

Parents angry over plans to close a school in North Lincolnshire will meet later to discuss a rescue package.

Brigg Preparatory, the only independent prep school in North Lincolnshire, will be merged with its sister school Hull Collegiate in January 2009.

The school announced the merger at the beginning of November, giving parents two months' notice of the relocation.

Parents have sought legal advice, and Brigg and Goole MP Ian Cawsey is supporting the action.

Brigg Preparatory School was taken over by the United Schools Church Trust four years ago.

The trust's school in Hull, 25 miles away, will take on older pupils, and the nursery will close.

A public meeting was held on 10 November to discuss efforts to halt the move, which happened without consultation.
