New £1.2m astro turf pitch opened

A new £1.2m centre including an astro turf pitch has opened at Bridlington Sports College in Yorkshire.

The full-size pitch can be used for hockey or football and can be split into smaller pitches for five or seven-a-side games.

There is also a separate warm-up area for training or practice and new changing facilities.

A grant from the Big Lottery Fund helped East Riding of Yorkshire Council to fund the new centre.

Head teacher John Wilson said: "This is a fabulous new facility that has already started to benefit our students and will be of major importance to what we can offer as a sports college."

Mr Wilson said community groups would also be able to use the centre.
