Police seize 63 cars in crackdown

More than 60 cars were seized during a police operation to target travelling criminals in East Yorkshire.

Officers took a total of 63 uninsured vehicles and unlicensed drivers off the roads during the operation on Wednesday and Thursday.

The operation, run jointly with three neighbouring forces, aims to catch criminals crossing county borders.

A 20-year-old man from Hessle was charged with possession of cannabis which was allegedly found in his car.

He will appear before Beverley Magistrates Court later.

Insp Neil Patterson of Humberside Police said: "It is recognised that criminals need to use the roads to travel both around the county and between force areas.

"This operation is aimed at those who seek to commit crime and deny them the use of our roads network without causing inconvenience to people going about their lawful business.

"I believe that balance has been achieved on this occasion."

It comes a week after a similar operation around York, the biggest the city has seen, which led to 278 cars being taken off the roads.
