A former police superintendent of Humberside Police has admitted taking, possessing and distributing images of children.
Alec Alexander, 61, pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court to 17 offences after photographs were found on his computer.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and indecent assault. His case was adjourned for trial and he was remanded into custody.
Alexander retired in 2000 after 30 years of service.
The former police chief admitted 10 counts of making an indecent photograph of a child between March 2005 and January 2008.
He also admitted five counts of distributing an indecent photograph of a child between February 2007 and January 2008, and two counts of possessing an indecent photograph of a child in January 2008.
He is alleged to have raped a girl, aged over 16, between January 1992 and December 1992 and has denied four counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14. These are alleged to have taken place between January 1983 and December 1985.
Alexander, who lives in west of Hull, was a divisional commander at Humberside Police and had reached the position of chief superintendent before his retirement.
