Bridge jump attempts prevented

There have been more than 200 incidents of people jumping or falling from the landmark since it opened in 1981. Only five have survived the falls.

The Humber Bridge Board will be meeting on Wednesday to discuss whether to cage off or introduce higher fencing along the walkways of the bridge.

Three designs will be presented to bridge officials at the meeting.

Models of the chosen design will then have to be weight and wind-tested before it can go ahead.

Angela Schumann, 28, from Leeds, and her daughter Lorraine Tumalan-Schumann, who was almost two years old at the time, survived a fall in June 2005.

She was jailed for attempted murder, but later released.

However, 12-year-old Ryan Davies, who suffered from behavioural problems, and his mother Alison, 41, of Stockport, died after falling from the bridge in April 2006.
