Residents have won their fight to see a ban imposed on heavy lorries driving through Beverley town centre.
The only vehicles not bound by the new seven and a half tonne weight limit are those from the nearby Defence School of Transport at Leconfield.
The Ministry of Defence was granted an exemption after citing the roads as an important part of its driver training.
But officials have now agreed to divert most of their vehicles away from the town after complaints from residents.
Campaigners said the heavy vehicles posed a serious danger to pedestrians.
The ban, which came into force on Thursday, covers most of the town centre, including Molescroft Road, New Walk, York Road, Wylies Road, Manor Road, Norwood and Hull Bridge Road.
