Burrowing badgers halt roadworks

The burrowing of a family of badgers delayed construction work on a road between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye.

Engineers were about to start work at Cusop when they noticed four large burrows on the road embankment.

The badgers had dug under the tarmac to such a degree that the road was unstable, engineering firm Amey said.

They were eventually moved to safety by staff from English Nature and the engineers were finally able to complete the work.
