Vomiting bug shuts hospital wards

Worcestershire Royal Hospital

A third Worcestershire hospital has banned visitors from its wards because of a winter vomiting bug.

Alexandra Hospital has followed the lead of Worcestershire Royal and Kidderminster hospitals following the norovirus outbreak.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital banned visitors on Wednesday after 40 patients in four wards were diagnosed.

One case was found at Kidderminster on Thursday then 19 people showing similar symptoms were admitted in Redditch.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said it hoped the ban would stop the infectious bug from spreading.

It said it would remain in place until at least the weekend.

Some non-urgent surgery has been cancelled at Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a result of the outbreak.
