Up to 50 people have been rescued by firefighters in Herefordshire and Worcestershire over recent days because of flooding.

The fire service said the majority of people were rescued from cars.

In Worcestershire, Tenbury Wells was hit for the fourth time in 13 months and the villages of Wolverley and Belbroughton were also affected.

People were also rescued in the Bromyard, Whitchurch and Leominster areas of Herefordshire.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service received about 250 flood-related calls between Friday afternoon and mid-morning on Sunday.

Burst banks

The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for the River Severn from Bevere to Powick, including Worcester, and between Worcester and Tewkesbury.

A warning was also in place on the River Trent from Yoxall, Staffordshire, to Drakelow, Worcestershire.

Warnings on the River Wye have been downgraded to flood watches.

The River Avon from Evesham to upstream of Tewkesbury and the River Teme from Bransford Bridge to Powick have been given the all clear.

Six homes in Wolverley were flooded, after the River Stour burst its banks and poured into the Horsley Brook in the village near Kidderminster in the early hours of Sunday.

Part of a cottage collapsed in Shutmill Lane, Belbroughton, on Saturday afternoon but no-one was inside.

There were no flooding incidents in Herefordshire and Worcestershire on Monday morning.
