Warrant part of 'global' inquiry

Police at the scene

Police who found a suspicious looking object at a university have said they executed a search warrant as part of an "ongoing international investigation".

Officers executed the warrant in relation to a room at Wyvern Hall at the University of Worcester on Friday.

People were told to leave the building and the device was made safe.

The action followed the arrest of a UK citizen by law enforcement officers in Vermont, in the US, but no arrests have been made in the UK, police said.

The West Mercia force said police activity at the university on Friday was not terrorist related and no-one was injured as a result of the operation.

It said during the search police officers found an object which required an explosive disposal unit to attend.

A road closure caused some disruption, it added.
