Murder charge over home body find

John McCarthy

A man has been charged with murdering a 34-year-old man found dead in his own home in Hampshire.

Police were called to Daisy Mead, Waterlooville, on 3 July where the body of John McCarthy was found.

David Coates, 36, of Allaway Avenue, Portsmouth, was remanded in custody to appear before Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

A 40-year-old man arrested in connection with the case remains on police bail until 18 August.

A 51-year-old man who was also arrested has been released without charge.

His family said on Wednesday Mr McCarthy had recently been having "one of the happiest periods of his short life" and had attended his niece's Christening last weekend.
