Boy, 8, sets A-level maths record

A boy from Hampshire is thought be the youngest person to pass maths A-level with an A grade.

Zohaib Ahmed from Chandler's Ford sat the A-level exam when he was eight. He was nine when the result came through.

He beat the record held by Hong Kong prodigy March Boedihardjo who was nine years and three months old when he sat exams to get an A in maths in 2007.

Zohaib's 11-year-old brother Wajih, scored 96% in his further maths A-level examination.

Zohaib, who goes to Knightwood Primary School with his brother, said he was really happy at breaking the record after scoring 90% in his A-level.

"I was really surprised but I was confident," he added.

"I revised three to five hours on a weekend and one to three hours during the week"

"It felt really strange to be sat with big people in there with me.

"I revised three to five hours on a weekend and one to three hours during the week."

His ambition is to work in the City as an actuary specialising in pensions and insurance.

His brother Wajih said: "My parents helped me out a lot.

"My dad taught me some maths and my mum sorted everything out.

"I couldn't have done it without them."

The boys' mother believes the achievements are down to good planning and hard work.

But they also have plenty of leisure time to play computer games and watch television.

Saadia Ahmed said: "I would look to see if they were on target and then work through it.

"They like playing around and football and we made sure they had a lot of time playing."
