Pair released in murder inquiry

Two people arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a Hampshire man who died while trying to stop a fight have been released without charge.

A 35-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both from Portsmouth, were questioned by police investigating the death of Brett Carpenter, 36.

On Wednesday John Grainger, 29, of Woodside Road, Guildford, was charged with assisting an offender.

Two Portsmouth men have already been charged with Mr Carpenter's murder.

They are Danny Bevan, 37, of Highfield Road, and Lee Bevan, 34, from London Road.

Mr Carpenter, was attacked in Highfield Road, Fratton, Portsmouth, on 11 November.

Post-mortem tests showed he died from extensive head injuries.
