A Hampshire man who was in a room of Mumbai's Taj Palace hotel when it was stormed by gunmen said it was the "most harrowing experience" of his life.
Steve Vincent, from Farnborough, was rescued by the Indian Army in Mumbai on Thursday.
Talking of his ordeal at Heathrow Airport on Friday he said he heard "lots of shouts and explosions" and it was "pandemonium on the streets".
He barricaded himself in his room until an army commando led him to safety.
"I was in my room, heard lots of shots, lots of explosions," Mr Vincent said.
'Scary experience'
"It was just absolute chaos, pandemonium on the streets, people going everywhere.
"Really scary, just absolute, absolute carnage.
"I barricaded the room, just locked the door and that was it, just sit there, turned all the lights off, kept quiet, that was it.
"It was the most harrowing, harrowing thing I've ever been through, the most scary experience of my life.
"It was awful. Just glad it's over."
At least seven sites in Mumbai were targeted late on Wednesday, with reportedly 130 people killed and 300 injured.
The gunmen had reportedly been seeking out UK and US passport holders.
