Missile causes driver to hit tree

A car left the road and hit a tree when the driver had to swerve to avoid an object thrown from a motorway bridge.

A 33-year-old woman, who was driving a Vauxhall Zafira on the M27 in Fareham, Hampshire, received treatment for seatbelt-related injuries.

Police received reports of items being thrown from the bridge in Red Barn Lane on Wednesday night.

Two boys, aged 14 and 15, have been held on suspicion of causing danger to road users.

Insp Dave Hunter said: "This kind of criminal activity is extremely dangerous to road users.

"Anything thrown from a bridge on to motorway traffic travelling at 70mph can potentially be lethal."
