'Good response' in torture appeal

Georgina Edmonds

Police have received up to 50 phone calls following a TV appeal to catch the killer of grandmother who was battered to death with a rolling pin.

Georgina Edmonds, 77, was found by her son at her home in Brambridge, near Winchester, Hampshire, on 11 January.

She had been tortured with a knife before being beaten over the head with her marble rolling pin.

Police said they were "pleased with the response" after the case was featured on the BBC's Crimewatch on Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said: "Officers will be following up all new lines of inquiries."

Cash not taken

Two £5,000 donations, one from a local man and the other from Crimestoppers, have also raised the reward to £30,000.

Post-mortem tests showed Mrs Edmonds died from head injuries.

The television appeal showed a reconstruction of events leading up to her death.

It was revealed that the attacker locked the kitchen door and took the key.

Mrs Edmonds's handbag was taken but £30 in cash, which she planned to use to pay the dog walker, was left on the kitchen side.

Det Ch Insp Paul Barton said police hoped the appeal would "provoke someone's memory of what they may have seen that day".
