Biker is banned for 82mph wheelie

Steven Skilton

A motorcyclist caught on a speed camera pulling an 82mph wheelie in a 30mph zone has been banned from driving.

Steven Skilton, 22, of Bitterne, Southampton, was captured seven times exceeding 30mph in Maybray King Way and Northam Bridge in the city.

On three of those occasions he reached speeds of more than 80mph.

At Southampton Magistrates' Court, Skilton was disqualified from driving for 18 months, fined £600 and had 39 points placed on his licence.

He was also ordered to pay £70 costs.

Skilton, of Ellis Road, pleaded guilty to six speeding offences after being identified by recognition experts.

He received six points for each speeding offence and an extra three points for driving without control.

It is expected that the points will be wiped from his licence once he has served his ban.

Julian Hewitt, of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Safer Roads Partnership, said: "Riding at these speeds in an urban area is extremely dangerous.

"Doing a wheelie compounds the danger.

"This case should send out a clear message that such reckless riding will not be tolerated."
