Plans for new community unveiled

Detailed plans have been unveiled for the development of a new community in Hampshire.

Some 1,550 new homes, a school, community centre, health and leisure facilities, and commercial space has been proposed for Newlands Common.

Developer Grainger has already secured outline planning permission for the 132 hectare (326 acre) site near Waterlooville.

A public consultation on the proposals is under way in the area.

Paul Storey, development director at Grainger, said: "Our aim is to create a place which promotes healthy and happy living.

"We will be building brand new local facilities around green open spaces, all within walking or cycling distance from the new homes and existing facilities."

Initially 161 homes and the planned community centre will be built with a public common at the heart of the site.
