Man dies following city collision

A motorist has died following a head-on collision in Southampton.

At about 2025 BST on Saturday a Ford Fiesta was in collision with a Rover car at Kanes Hill in Bitterne.

The male driver of the Rover was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been formally identified but police said he was from the Southampton area.

The male driver of the Fiesta, also from Southampton, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The A27 was closed at Kanes Hill for four hours following the crash while officers examined the scene.

Any witnesses have been asked to contact police.
