Man arrested after cyclist crash

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a road accident on the Isle of Wight.

A cyclist from Brading was injured during Friday's rush hour when he swerved to avoid a van at a pinch point on Ashey Road in Ryde, police said.

The 40-year-old, who was riding in the opposite direction, mounted the pavement and came off, hitting a wall.

He was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The 26-year-old van driver from Ryde has been released on bail.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
