Lively Lady returns 40 years on

Lively Lady

The yacht Lively Lady has returned home after completing a circumnavigation of the globe 40 years after she first made the journey with Sir Alec Rose.

The historic yacht sailed into Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth on Saturday with a crew of 26 disadvantaged youngsters on board led by local man Alan Priddy.

Mr Priddy, an ocean adventurer, was inspired by the greengrocer Sir Alec's feat 40 years ago.

The two year voyage gave young people the chance to turn their lives around.

Disadvantaged youngsters had a chance to sail a leg of the circumnavigation, which involved 2 stops.

"The project was always about the young adults," said Mr Priddy after returning to his home city.

"If you think you can do something you can.

"These guys have had a tough trip but they've done it. I'm over the moon."

Lively Lady was the late Sir Alec's historic yacht in which he completed his solo circumnavigation in 1968, arriving back on 4 July.

On each leg the crew changed with two new young adults.

Mr Priddy added: "Sir Alec Rose was one of my childhood role models and the reason I got involved in sailing, so I feel very privileged to have continued where he left off."
