Elderly man dies in cottage fire

An elderly man has died in a fire at a cottage in Hampshire.

Crews were called to Main Road in Lower Froyle, near Alton, at about 1830 GMT and firefighters found the body in an upstairs room.

Police said it is thought to be of a man in his 70s. They are not treating the blaze as suspicious.

Five crews from Hampshire and Surrey were at the scene and the road has been closed while investigations into the cause of the blaze take place.
