Georgina Edmonds Police investigating the murder of a 77-year-old woman in her village home have found the victim's mobile phone.

Georgina Edmonds was found dead by her son at her home in Kiln Lane, Brambridge, Hampshire, on 11 January.

Specialist teams found the phone as they searched a path that runs along the River Itchen.

Detectives released a map earlier showing a number of people they want to talk to, who were seen in the area on the day Mrs Edmonds was killed.

Det Ch Insp Paul Barton, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: "This is a significant find as it indicates that the person or people responsible for Mrs Edmonds' death have used this footpath to leave the area.

"These people may have entirely legitimate reasons why they were in the area"
Det Ch Insp Paul Barton

"I would urge anyone who used this path, which runs from Brambridge towards Eastleigh, emerging at Highbridge Road, Twyford Road and Bishopstoke, on 11 January to contact us."

Post-mortem tests showed Mrs Edmonds died of extensive head injuries.

Mrs Edmonds' daughter, who works as a nurse in Kenya and Sudan and has since returned to England, appealed for help in finding her mother's killer.

A distinctive key fob, Mrs Edmonds' cash card, cheque book and handbag have all been missing since the killing.

Officers began searching a house in Twyford Road, two miles from where Mrs Edmonds was killed, two weeks after her death.

Four men were arrested on 14 January. Three were released without charge while a 37-year-old man was released on bail.

Post-mortem tests showed Mrs Edmonds died of extensive head injuries. An inquest into her death is due to open later.
