House near murder scene searched

Georgina Edmonds Officers investigating the murder of an elderly woman in Hampshire are searching a house two miles from where she was killed.

Georgina Edmonds, 77, was found dead by her son in the kitchen of her home in Kiln Lane, Brambridge, on 11 January.

A distinctive key fob, Mrs Edmonds' cash card, cheque book and handbag are missing since the killing.

Police have been at a house in Twyford Road since Friday and have searched bins in the road for discarded items.

Extensive head injuries

They said a number of items were discovered and will be looked at as part of the investigation.

Det Ch Insp Paul Barton, from Hampshire Constabulary, said: "There are around 250 police officers involved in this investigation and extensive enquiries have been ongoing since Mrs Edmond's body was found on Friday, 11 January.

"We are grateful to the community for their assistance in this matter and urge them to continue to come forward with information."

Police want to talk to anyone who used the footpath which runs alongside the River Itchen, south from Brambridge towards Highbridge Road, Allbrook Hill and Twyford Road.

"This was an appalling crime committed against a member of our community and we need the help of local residents to find the person or people responsible," Det Ch Insp Barton said.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mrs Edmonds had died from extensive head injuries.

Four men were arrested on 14 January. Three of them were released without charge the following day, while a 37-year-old man was released on bail.
