Fresh appeal over woman's murder

Georgina Edmonds Detectives investigating the murder of a 77-year-old woman have returned to her village to renew their appeal for witnesses a week after her killing.

The body of Georgina Edmonds was found by her son, Harry, at her home in Kiln Lane, Brambridge, Eastleigh, Hampshire, on 11 January.

Officers have been visiting the area to speak to members of the community.

They stopped motorists, dog walkers, joggers and visitors to the area of Kiln Lane to appeal for information.

Police said about 1,200 vehicles were stopped between 1100 and 1530 GMT.

Det Ch Insp Paul Barton, said: "It has now been one week since Mrs Edmonds was brutally murdered in her own home.

"This remains an active investigation and we still need help from members of the public.

"We still believe that the community holds vital information, no matter how small or irrelevant you think it might be, it could be crucial to our investigation.

"This was a despicable crime committed against a vulnerable member of our community so please work with us and help us catch the person responsible."

Four men were arrested on Monday.

Three of them were released without charge the following day and a 37-year-old man was released on bail.

Police earlier released CCTV images of a man using Mrs Edmonds' card at a cash machine on Friday after she had died.

They have also appealed to residents to check their gardens and bins for discarded items of Mrs Edmonds' property and to submit their own CCTV to police to help with their investigation.
