Ex-goalkeeper cleared of assault

Alan Knight A former Portsmouth Football Club goalkeeper has been cleared of assaulting his girlfriend.

Alan Knight denied punching 25-year-old Kerry Dolan in his pick-up truck in Southsea, Hampshire, before dragging her out and attacking her again.

He was found not guilty at Portsmouth Magistrates Court.

Mr Knight was charged with assault after a passer-by saw the pair arguing on 13 August and called the police. But Ms Dolan did not make a complaint.

Neither did she make a formal statement to police.

Speaking outside court, Mr Knight, of Hazleton Way, Waterlooville, Hampshire, said: "I am glad to say it is all over. It has been a tough few months.

"I would like to thank all my friends and family who have stood by me and I wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year - let's get on with life."
